SERENA THE ALOCASIA SARIAN
LIGHTING 
Serena should be placed in a room with plenty of natural light. About a metre away from a west or east-facing window is ideal. Her leaves will burn in any direct midday sun but morning or evening filtered sun is welcomed. Serena is not low light tolerant and may struggle in a room that doesn’t receive much light. Lighting-wise Serena pairs perfectly with Marble (Scindapsus Pictus or silver pothos) and Monty (Monstera Deliciosa or Swiss cheese plant)
WATERING 
Getting the balance may be tricky and her soil should be checked regularly. The more bright indirect light Serena receives the more often she will need watering. You might notice the edges of her leaves start to yellow if her water to light ratio is off balance. Serena will object to dry or soggy soil so keeping the soil consistently moist is very important to avoid leaf drop.
HUMIDITY 
Serena is a humidity loving plant. Place her in a humid room or nearby a humidifier. Find out how you can increase humidity around your plant here.
TEMPERATURE 
The perfect indoor temperature for Serena is between 18-25ºC. As long as the indoor temperature doesn't dip lower than 18°C Serena will be happy.
FERTILISER 
Serena likes regular fertilising. Use a houseplant fertiliser once every 3-4 weeks in the spring and summer months. Do not fertilise her in the winter months.
REPOTTING 
Serena will let you know when she is ready to be repotted by pushing lots of larger roots out of her nursery pot. Very often this is once every 1-2 years but will depend on how fast she grows.
TROUBLESHOOTING YOUR ALOCASIA SARIAN
Brown edges and drooping - Crispy or dry edges are a sign that Serena is lacking humidity. This is usually followed by dropping and the occasional yellowing leaf. Increase humidity levels by placing her by a humidifier or moving her to a bathroom.
Drooping leaves - Serena prefers her soil to stay moist and will start to droop her leaves when she is ready for a drink. Always check the first two inches of her soil to make sure it is dry before you water again.
Yellow leaves - Serena’s leaves will turn yellow if she is being watered too much compared to how much light she is receiving. Either place her in a brighter spot or reduce her watering schedule.
OUR TOP 3 CARE TIPS 
Top tip 1: If Serena seems to be in stress without proper cause, take her out of her pot and remove all the soil from around her roots. Place her in a vase of water for a couple of weeks. This helps her re-set and return to good health. You can then repot her back into fresh potting soil.
Top tip 2: Don’t panic if Serena loses a couple of leaves when first brought home. She is getting used to her new environment.
Top tip 3: If Serena is dropping a lot of her leaves, this could be a sign she is making room for new growth. She is a fast grower and her leaf turnover is high.
