As the most plant-friendly room in the home - thanks to its warm and sunny conditions - the conservatory can welcome even the most exotic plants that wouldn’t normally survive outside of tropical climes.
Whether you’re using your conservatory as a home office, dining room or an extra relaxation spot, our plants will add new, lush and leafy life to your conservatory. As a room that already brings nature into your home, go wild (we mean it!) with an ambitious new crop of colourful plants.
With such warm and pleasant conditions, there are few plants that won’t love life inside your conservatory. That said, before you dive right in, it’s worth considering how much space you have and what the temperatures are likely to be - you don’t want to overheat plants that aren’t used to high temperatures! We suggest the best plants for the conservatory are:
The Ficus ginseng bonsai tree is a great choice for the sunniest spot in your house. He loves sunlight, so place him in the brightest spot in your conservatory so that he can soak up the rays.
If you’re looking for a plant that has large elegant fan-like leaves, Sasha the giant white bird of paradise (Strelitzia Nicolai) is a fantastic choice. Sasha is just shy of a metre but will continue to grow up to two feet every year. She’s a sun-loving plant that doesn’t mind direct sunlight in the morning or evening, so pop her in a place where she can catch the sunrise or sunset.
Bonnie the spider plant is a pet safe plant that will thrive in good bright light. A conservatory with morning or evening sunlight is ideal for her leaves. She’s also one of the top air purifying plants and so she won’t just look good, she’ll put the effort in to remove toxins from the air around your home.
If you’ve got some experience under your belt, choose Fiona, the fiddle-leaf fig tree. She’s a fabulous fit for a south facing conservatory and, available as a big or small plant, she can either stake out a space on the floor or command the room from a shelf or table top.
Plants in the conservatory will get a lot of light, so you’ll want to select a houseplant that loves sunbathing. Just like pasty humans, plants can actually burn if the sun is too strong, so read the plant’s care guide carefully before committing.
Carlos the cactus is a quirky beauty who will be happy to spend all day long basking in the sunlight. He’ll also absolutely dig the warmer climate that your conservatory creates in summertime, making him an all-round happy dude for a hot house.
Tropical plants, such as Eddie the golden pothos and Marble the silver pothos hail from the tropical forests of Polynesia and thrive in hot spaces. Your conservatory will be their idea of heaven: the Pothos family are happy in temperatures up to 31°C .
For an even more relaxed option, take a look at Bonnie, the Chrlorophytum bonnie. She can tolerate temperatures as low as 2°C and up to 29°C, meaning you’ll get no complaints when it’s hot and won’t freeze in the winter months when your conservatory gets chilly.
