Areca Palm Care Guide
ARECA PALM CARE GUIDE
LIGHTING
The areca palm will be happiest in a partly sunny room or filtered bright light. These particular palms do grow in the sun but be careful to avoid any midday sun that could burn the foliage.
WATERING
In the summer months the areca palm may need watering once or twice a week. Keep the soil slightly moist without letting the soil dry out too much. In the winter the palm will need much less. Always check the soil and never water if the soil remains wet.
HUMIDITY
The Areca palm is a humidity loving plant and will benefit from slightly higher humidity levels. To increase humidity, use a humidifier and mist every 2-3 days. If good light is available the palm is an ideal bathroom plant.
TEMPERATURE
The perfect indoor temperature for the Areca palm is between 18-24ºC degrees celsius. As long as the indoor temperature doesn't dip lower than 18°C, the palm will be happy.
FERTILISER
Use our fortifying fertiliser every 4-6 weeks with a slow release formula in the months from March-September. Do not fertilise in the winter months
REPOTTING
The Areca palm is a slow grower and prefers to be root bound. Repotting is only required once every 2-3 years.
TROUBLESHOOTING YOUR ARECA PALM
Brown Tips -The crispy or dry edges are a sign that the Areca palm is lacking humidity. Increase humidity levels by misting the foliage every 2-3 days or move the palm to the bathroom.
Yellow leaves - The yellow fonds can be a sign of underwatering. If the soil dries out completely the fonds will turn yellow to indicate it’s ready for a drink.
OUR TOP 3 CARE TIPS
Top tip 1: Clean the Areca palms foliage every three weeks with beautifying leaf shine to remove dust and dirt.
Top tip 2: While the Areca palm enjoys the sun, keep the foliage away from direct midday sunlight. This will burn the foliage.
Top tip 3: Place the Areca palm in the bedroom. The palm will purify the air while you sleep.
