Lava Rock Care Guide
FERN AND SCHEFFLERA ON A ROCKCARE GUIDE
Native to warm and humid forest beds in Southeast Asia and South America.
LIGHTING 
Lara should be placed in a well lit room with plenty of natural light. She is a little sensitive to direct sunlight and should be placed in a spot out of harsh sun. A metre away from a window that receives morning or evening light is ideal. Lighting-wise Lara matches perfectly with Pete, Benny and Xavier.
WATERING 
Lara is unlike any other plant and will take a drink from her tray whenever she is thirsty. Keep the tray filled up with water and Lara will do the rest.
HUMIDITY 
Lara loves a humid environment and would look perfect in a bathroom that can offer natural light. Avoid misting Lara as this will cause mould on her foliage and her rock. Find out how you can increase humidity here.
TEMPERATURE 
Lara prefers a warm environment and should be placed in a room between 20ºC-24ºC. Avoid letting the temperature dip lower than 18ºC at night.
FERTILISER 
Spray Lara’s leaves with our houseplant fertiliser once a month. She will absorb the nutrients through her leaves instead of her roots.
TROUBLESHOOTING YOUR PLANT ON A ROCK
Lava rock moulding/blemishes - This could be a sign the water you are using is too hard. Use filtered or rainwater moving forward to keep Lara happy.
Black/yellow leaves - This might be a sign that the leaves were leaning against the rock and starting to mould. If possible, do not allow the foliage to touch/droop onto the lava rock.
OUR TOP 3 CARE TIPS 
Top tip 1: Make sure the rock is always hydrated and moist. This is where the plant will get its water from.
Top tip 2: Overtime you may notice some dirt build up on her rock. It’s not harmful to the plant but if you’d prefer to get rid of it you can do so with a scrubbing brush.
Top tip 3: If you notice her roots growing away from her rock you can trim these roots off. If these roots sit in water for a long period of time they will start to rot.
