ABOUT OUR  ARECA PALM

Hi, I'm the Areca palm, Dypsis lutescens or butterfly palm but I’m known around here as the baby palm! I’m the perfect plant for a small space - you can place me in any nook in your home and I will be quite happy. My lush green foliage is very easy to maintain which is why I’ve got the reputation of being a must-have plant for beginners.

I’m found in the Madagascan tropical forests where I enjoy the filtered light and warm temperatures. I've a number of benefits, as I’ve been known to emit moisture into the air and inhale common household toxins; trust me: I really do play my part in keeping your home’s air clean and fresh.

My small and compact size allows me to be placed on a bookshelf, bedside table or coffee table. I’ll be at home in any room and my healthy green foliage will add tropical style to your space.

Baby Height (including nursery pot) 15-25cm; pot diameter 6cm.

DID YOU KNOW?

Areca palms emit oxygen at night, helping you breathe better while you sleep.

The baby palm will perch on any high surface and give a luscious, tropical feel to your home

QUICK BABY ARECA PALM PLANT CARE

The Areca palm is considered to be very low maintenance, just be sure to keep her away from direct sunlight or radiators.

LIGHTING

I’ll tolerate low and medium lighting conditions.

WATERING

Allow my soil to dry out a little in between each watering; you’ll soon find I don’t like sitting in excess water

HUMIDITY

I prefer higher levels of humidity as I absorb moisture through my fronds. You can place me in a bathroom or mist my foliage regularly.

FERTILISER

Fertilise me once every four to six weeks in the growth season, which is from March to September.

THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED

How do you care for an areca palm plant?

Areca palms make a wonderful houseplant as they’re very easy to care for and will maintain a consistent size if kept in medium to low lighting. Indoor temperatures can fluctuate and the areca palm will stand strong without being too bothered by an open window or draft. It’s best to keep the palm’s soil slightly on the drier side to prevent root rot - areca palms are actually drought tolerant and will forgive the forgetful waterer.

How often should I water my areca palm?

Let the soil dry out before watering again. The areca palm may only need a weekly water in the summer and even less in the winter months.

Is the Dypsis lutescens safe for dogs?

Yes, the areca palm or Dypsis lutescens is non-toxic if ingested and so perfectly safe to have around pets and small children.

PLANT STYLING TIPS

The potted baby palm is the perfect size for any shelf or mantle piece. Place her in a white or grey pot so her green foliage really stands out. Due to her tolerance of low lighting, she can be placed on high surfaces that don’t receive much bright light.

Pair the palms tropical foliage with our joyful candle or reflect crystal for a peaceful evening.
