size doesn't matter

Whether you live in a shoe-box sized studio flat or home is a room in a shared house, you can still add impact and turn your environs green (and your neighbours green with envy!) with a small indoor plant.

IT'S LIT!

A house plant shop selling candles? Yes – you heard it here first, folks! Here at Quirky plants, we supply a range of complimentary products that help us on our mission: to create a greener, happier, healthier planet for all.

SMALL HOUSEPLANTS

However diminutive your space, there’s a Quirky houseplant to fit. Novice plant parents should make a beeline for easy to grow small plants such as a spiral cactus or practically indestructible spider plant - which will also make for an original - and perfectly affordable - gift.

Many of our plants come in miniature plant versions like our adorable baby palm or Sasha the giant white bird of paradise so you can add even the most on-trend potted plants - even if the size of your home isn’t something you’ll be boasting about on Instagram.

They’re also a small but perfectly-formed gift that’s both thoughtful and not overwhelming for the receiver, and which can be treasured at their desk or on their bedside table forever more.

Browse and get inspired by our handpicked selection of small indoor plants and add a tiny - but worthwhile - splash of green to your home.

FAQs

What are the best small houseplants for shelves?

The best small indoor plants can fit into the empty space on your bookshelf like the hard-to-kill Bonnie the spider plant or make a subtle centrepiece for a dining room table with our beginner-friendly Ficus ginseng bonsai tree. We even have options of small indoor plants for low-light in case sunlight is a bit of a limited resource in your place, just use our filter to help you.

Which plants can grow in small pots?

When it comes to easy-to-grow small plants, the wacky spiral cactus and our easy-peasie Yucca, with its woody stem and sword-shaped leaves, are both our choice of small, beginner-friendly plants. They will look good on a kitchen counter or windowsill and won’t get the hump if you forget to water them every once in a while. These little plants are slow growers and will likely stay very small if kept in a shady spot.

How do I keep my indoor plants small?

Many mini potted plants will stay small throughout their life, particularly if you keep them in a shady or darker part of the home to help slow down their growth. We recommend checking out our indoor plants that can cope in low-light for further inspiration.

The baby areca palm is an indoor houseplant that will stay small. She’s perfect for a small nook in your home as she won’t grow much (only about an inch per year). She’s also a happy chappy when it comes to low-light, which should also slow down her growth and keep her teeny, tiny and perfectly cute.
