ABOUT OUR CALATHEA MEDALLION
Hello there! I'm a Calathea medallion but you can call me Catherine. Did I catch you checking out my stunning colourful foliage? My patterned leaves are my best feature and are pretty hard to miss.
I’m native to the Amazon rainforest in Brazil and, because of the way the towering canopy of the jungle protects me from the sunlight, I prefer filtered light. As a result, even though I might be tropical, I actually have no problem being in a room with lower light levels. You can even keep me in your home in the winter time when the days are shorter and I’ll still thrive.
That said, I do much prefer warmer temperatures, which, if you’re not careful, will dry out my soil quickly. If you notice my leaves curling, this could be from cold stress or underwatering.
My leaves are proof of how incredible nature is as my foliage is unmissable. Let my tropical look lighten (and brighten!) up your home!

With her beautifully patterned foliage and burgundy undersides of her leaves, Catherine is so striking, she'll bring the glamour of the jungle directly into your home.
QUICK CALATHEA MEDALLION PLANT CARE
Catherine is a colourful and eye-catching plant. Her foliage will help to uplift your home.
I’m happy in a medium light, as any bright light will burn my leaves.
In the summer, water me twice a week and in the winter, do so less frequently. Always check the first few inches of soil is dry before watering.
The more humidity the better! Use a humidifier nearby or place me on top of a pebble tray.
Fertilise me one a month in the months from March to September. Use a quarter strength fertiliser as my roots can be sensitive.
FAST FACTS ABOUT CATHERINE
The best room for the Calathea medallion is a bathroom where the levels of humidity are higher.
THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED
How do you care for a Calathea Medallion?
Calathea care can be tricky but once it’s mastered, you’ll find these to be very rewarding plants. Keep the soil consistently moist, humidity levels high and indoor temperatures higher than 18°C. You may notice brown, crisp leaves, which are caused by lack of humidity and a bad reaction to tap water. Use filtered or rain water to avoid this from occurring and place a humidifier nearby to keep humidity levels high.
Where should I put my Calathea?
Catherine’s beautiful colours will never fade as long as she is kept out of bright light. The best spot for Catherine is about a metre away from any window. She does not need bright light to survive and won’t mind a darker corner of a room. Calatheas are non-toxic if ingested, so they can be placed in any room with pets or small children.
How big does a Calathea Medallion get?
She is a moderate grower and will push out new growth throughout the year, especially in the summer when temperatures are warmer. With the proper care, Catherine can grow up to a metre tall.
