Aspidistra Elatior Care Guide
IAN THE ASPIDISTRA ELATIOR
LIGHTING
Ian isn’t one to fuss and will be happy in all types of light. He is low light tolerant but also will be happy in a medium/filtered light. Lighting wise Ian pairs perfectly with Sammy and Foxy.
WATERING
Let his soil dry out completely before his next watering. He’s very drought tolerant and will forgive you if you forget to water him. If he is placed in a shady spot he will only need watering once or twice a month.
HUMIDITY
Ian doesn’t require any high levels of humidity, normal household humidity levels are good.
TEMPERATURE
Ian can tolerate temperatures between 7-27°C. As long as the indoor temperature doesn't dip lower than 7°C Ian will be happy.
FERTILISER
Fertilise him with our fortifying fertiliser once every 4 weeks in the months from March-September. Do not fertilise in the winter.
REPOTTING
Ian really likes to be root bound and would prefer to stay in his original pot for as long as possible without his roots being disturbed. You will notice that his original nursery pot will start to buckle or large roots will stick out of the bottom and this is a sign that he is ready to be repotted with fresh potting mix. Go green with our peat free potting mix.
TROUBLESHOOTING YOUR CAST IRON PLANT
Yellow leaves - Yellow leaves are usually caused by over watering. Ian does not need much water to thrive. If he is badly over watered this could lead to root rot.
Browning/yellowing tips - The tips are a sign that he is a little sunburnt. Take him out of any direct or bright light. A medium light is good enough for Ian.
