Wax Flower

ABOUT OUR HOYA CARNOS TRICOLOR

Hiya, I’m Hayley the Hoya. Formally speaking, I’m actually a Hoya carnosa Tricolour but nowadays I’m simply known as a wax plant. I might look delicate and a bit needy, but I’m actually pretty easy to care for. My hardy, waxy leaves grow along perfectly pink stems in a mixture of attractive cream, green and pink shades and will hold on to water - so you’ll be forgiven if you forget to give me a drink once in a while.

I’m native to most countries in East Asia and part of the Apocynaceae family, which has over 900 species. While I grow much larger in the wild, in your home, my trailing, pink vines may well reach a metre in length.

My pastel-hued foliage will look spectacular in a stylish hanging pot, where I’ll be able to hang loose and grow freely. If given enough bright, indirect light, I’ll even reward you with beautiful, pink-white blooms that smell just like honey.

Small height (including nursery pot) 15cm; pot diameter 12cm.

Medium height (including nursery pot) 30cm; pot diameter 14cm.

DID YOU KNOW?

Hoyas have seen a surge in popularity among budding botanists over the past few years. If you’re looking for an on-trend houseplant, you can’t get any cooler than Hayley!

Hayley’s delicate but hardy pink leaves are ideal for softening up any room.

QUICK HOYA CARNOS TRICOLOR PLANT CARE

This type of Hoya is a surprisingly easy plant to care for and a good option for a houseplant beginner.

LIGHTING

I’m a sun loving plant, so place me in a well-lit room.

WATERING

I don’t mind my soil drying out a little but I will need more water in the summer months.

HUMIDITY

I can cope in dry spaces but I will grow faster with higher levels of humidity.

FERTILISER

You can use a fertiliser every four weeks in the growth season. I won’t need it in the winter.

THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED

Do Hoyas like sun or shade?

Hayley prefers bright sun. She will grow faster and is more likely to produce her delicate and richly scented blooms when she has plenty of light. If your room’s a bit darker, she can tolerate it, but she won’t grow as fast.

How do you care for a Hoya plant?

The Hoya Carnosa Tricolor prefers bright light, good levels of humidity and light watering. Hoyas are easy-care plants but can be quite sensitive to wet soil, so avoid letting Hayley sit in any excess water that could lead to root rot. The perfect temperature for Hayley is between 15°C and 32°C. She much prefers warmer temperatures and really shouldn’t be placed in a room that gets any cooler than 15°C.

How do I get my wax plant to bloom?

Hayley is more likely to bloom in the growth season, which is from March to September. She’s a sun loving plant and will only bloom with enough bright light, although you can also spur her on with a bit of houseplant fertiliser once a month over the spring and summer months.

PLANT STYLING TIPS

Hayley’s beautiful pastel vines should be draped over a bookcase or placed by a window in a hanging pot. Use a grey clay pot that will complement her foliage but won’t draw attention away from her pretty pink foliage. Pair this plant with our pink love crystal or our Crystal Point to match her foliage.
