ABOUT OUR YUCCA ELEPHANTIPES
Hi, I’m Andy the Yucca elephantipes. You’ll know me better as just yucca, although I also go by the names spineless yucca and yucca cane. My dark green, spear-like leaves and knobbly brown stem give me the appearance of a tree but, thanks to my convenient size, you can place me on your office desk and still have space for your computer!
I’m one of 40 species native to the warmer states of the USA and Mexico. I like warm temperatures which is why I make such a good houseplant; place me in your sunny office or conservatory in the summer and I’ll soak up all the warmth on my leaves. That said, if your home isn’t blessed with much sunshine, I’m quite adaptable and will tolerate lower light conditions - even a dark landing won’t stop me thriving.
My hardy reputation means you can place me in any room of your home and, if you’ve got a friend with not so green fingers, I’m beginner-friendly and would make an excellent gift.

DID YOU KNOW?
There are at least two species of yucca known to not only flower but also produce edible fruit as well. That said, we don’t recommend you trying to eat Andy - he really wouldn’t appreciate it!
Without the razor sharp leaves found on many other Yuccas, Andy won't threaten your fingers and is an easy going, low maintenance plant that'll add some pizzazz to a dark corner in your room.
QUICK YUCCA PLANT CARE
Andy’s a hardy houseplant who’ll find his way in practically any environment.
I can tolerate low lighting but I’ll actually enjoy a brighter spot.
Allow my soil to dry out a little before you water me again. I’m very drought tolerant but sensitive to root rot. Less is more!
I prefer a little moisture on my levels, so place me on a pebble tray for extra humidity.
I’ll be happy with being fertilised just twice a year. Only fertilise me in the spring and summer months.
FAST FACTS ABOUT ANDY

THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED
How do you care for a Yucca elephantipes?
The Yucca elephantipes is easy to care for, providing you allow his soil to dry out in between each watering: we can’t stress enough that the most common reason houseplants die is from overwatering. Native to warmer and dry parts of the world, Andy prefers his soil to be on the drier side, however, If you notice the yucca’s leaves turning brown and crisp, this could be a sign that he is ready for a drink. Andy’s happy in most lighting conditions and will tolerate lower lighting and medium light but will grow fast in a better lit room.
How long does a yucca plant live?
The yucca is a very hardy houseplant and can live over 100 years given the right care conditions. Repot your yucca every few years and fertilise twice a year to keep the soil fresh and full of nutrients.
Is the Yucca elephantipes poisonous to dogs and other pets?
Yes. If consumed, the yucca is poisonous to your furry friends and can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Luckily, it’s unlikely to be deadly, however we do suggest keeping Andy on a desk or side table away from pets and young children.
